New science requires new tools, hence, we continuously develop state-of-the-art instrumentation. Among others, recently, we implemented a external pagenew digital, broad-band nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer suitable for probing condensed matter. Building dedicated nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instrumentation implies high costs and significant construction efforts. By using new high-performance radio-processor devices, with embedded field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), we could implement a novel type of spectrometer, able to meet (or exceed) the special demands of condensed matter NMR. Our novel FPGA-based design has met also the interest of many scientists working in other areas.
